How to Pass a Cook's Interview β Questions and Answers
A cook interview in Moldova usually has two parts: a conversation with the head chef or manager, and a practical check (a trial shift or cooking a dish). Here's both.
Common interview questions
- "Tell me about your kitchen experience" β be specific: which stations you've run (cold, hot line), what type of cuisine.
- "How do you handle a stressful shift?" β give a real example, not a generic answer.
- "What dishes do you cook best?" β name 2β3 specific dishes and explain the technique.
- "Are you available for weekend and evening shifts?" β an honest answer matters more than the "right" one.
The practical test
Many venues run a one-day trial shift instead of, or alongside, the interview. They're assessing speed, cleanliness of your station, food safety habits, and how you take feedback from the head chef.
What to bring
- Your own knife and basic tools if you have them β it stands out to a head chef.
- Closed shoes and clothes you don't mind getting messy.
- A list of previous jobs with dates, even if a CV isn't required.
If you don't have much experience
A kitchen helper or cold-line cook role is a solid way in without extensive experience. Be honest about your level and your willingness to learn.
